This study was conducted to recognize the relationship between health perceptions and health locus of control on health behaviors in order to provide baseline data for an efficient health education plan and for further research.
The subjects for this study were made up 300 boys at the second grade in a school, located in Kwang Ju.
The three instruments used were Health Perception Questionnaire (32 items) developed by John E. Ware, Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scales (18 items) developed by Wallston. B.S. & Wallston. K.A., and Health Behavior Scale (25 items) developed by You Ji Soo, et al.
Data was analyzed by using means, S.E., ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The correlation between six health perception variables and three health locus of control variables on health behaviors were as follows:
1. The higher the score of perception of current health, past health, and health outlook, the higher the score of health behavior compliance. There were no significant correlation among the score of perception of health worry/concern, resistance-susceptibility, and rejection of sick role.
2. The higher the score of health locus of control-internal and health locus of controlpowerful others, the higher the score of health behavior compliance, showing the Positive correlation. But there was no significant correlation between the score of health locus of control-chance and health behavior compliance.
